There’s a fungus among us. Tonight on CBS’ Zoo, while the team members busy themselves with a rat infestation problem in Massachusetts, they overlook a larger problem under their noses: a “rat” within their own team.

Zoo-8

The team take their mission to Massachusetts after they were informed that a cargo ship carrying dead sailors and live rats had washed up ashore.

While Jackson and his team believe that the rats munched on and killed the crew while they were still alive and kicking, the town’s sheriff, Rebecca Bowman, believes that their corpses were feasted on by the rats after their demise.

To test their theory, Chloe, Jackson, Jamie, and Abraham go to the abandoned Wilson Hotel with the intention of capturing a male and female rat for experimental purposes. However, they discover that their simple task wasn’t as simple as originally thought.

After hearing the grinding of thousands of small, sharp teeth, the team realize that the hotel is infested with an army of rats with a penchant for human flesh. After Abraham manages to capture a male rat, they come to face to face with the army and flee, losing Chloe in the process. It is during their escape that Abraham, upon opening the bag containing the male rat, is stunned to find that the rat had “given birth” to little male pups which were becoming increasingly lethargic due to dehydration. This leads Jackson to believe that not only can these critters reproduce asexually but that there must exist a nest with a “queen” responsible for nourishing the pups somewhere in the hotel. After convincing Abraham and a reluctant Jamie to go in search of the nest with him, he leads them down the hotel basement where, lo and behold, they encounter what looks like a scene out of the movie Ben. Horrified, they back away, only to find out that the rats have them surrounded. Luckily for them, Chloe appears with a propane torch and heroically incinerates the pack.

While Chloe was busy saving her team, Mitch was busy trying to save his daughter. After spending the day at a park with Clementine, he drops her off at his ex wife’s house and asks his ex to let him know if Henry the dog starts behaving strange or aggressively. Despondent from her chilly response, he heads off to his clandestine rendezvous with Clayton Burke at Reiden Global to exchange the mother cell for the much needed medicine for Clementine. As he is about to give Burke the mother cell, he sees across the hallway, Delavane. Their eyes meet and….you’ll have to tune in next week to see if Mitch surrenders the priceless mother cell for the greater good or rejects the medicine that could potentially save his own flesh and blood.

Another question that won’t be answered until next week’s episode of CBS’ Zoo is the connection between the deceased agent Shaffer and the mysterious man whose joyride with his date almost ended tragically when their carriage horse went Norman Bates on them. Who is this man who may have employed Shaffer to retrieve the mother cell for him? And what does he want the mother cell for?

For answers to these questions, you’ll have to tune in next week. Same time, same place, same bat channel: Zoo on CBS at 9/8c.
